1. How hard is it to stop on a SUP board?

It is not that easy to be stable on a SUP board when you do this for the first time, but you adapt quickly. But it quickly becomes much easier to stop. A tip: start on calm, shallow water. If you start out in the sea, you will be confronted with waves and choppy water. This makes it a lot harder to find your balance and to make friends with the SUP board.

2. What is the easiest way to learn to stand comfortably on a SUP board?

The easiest way is by first starting in calm water, such as a small lake. First you kneel on the SUP board and paddle a little. It is recommended to start with a beginner SUP board. This board is a bit thicker and wider so that there is a higher initial stability. On your knees you can get used to correcting and keep your balance. Choose a windless day for practice and practice in a quiet place so that you can fully concentrate on the supping. You put the SUP board on the water and then crawl onto the board with your hands and knees. Push to the center and straighten up. Lean back a little and you are in the right position. Learn the basic techniques for accelerating, braking and turning. If you can do this and keep your balance, you can stand up. It works with one leg at a time. Put one foot on the SUP board and make sure that the knee and the shoulder remain the same. Now you can slowly stand upright. If you are standing, then take a moment to find your balance. Try to stand on the sup board for five minutes without a paddle. The paddle can throw you off balance. Then you can practice the paddling techniques you have learned. Don't you feel good about it? Then get back on your knees and practice a little longer. Practice until you feel comfortable in an upright position.

3. What size SUP board do I need?

Beginners can always start with an inflatable board, which is more stable than a conventional SUP board. Are you further and would you like a eller more professional ’model? Then you have to make this decision based on three factors. First, you have to keep track of the water. For calm water, opt for a longer and narrower model and for choppy water or sea water, a shorter and wider board is better. Curious about our buying advice for beginners? Then click the link

Then you have to look carefully which SUP board fits your weight. The heavier you are, the longer the board needs to be for comfortable supping. For very heavy people it is recommended to keep an eye on the thickness of the SUP board. Ultimately, you also need to consider the convenience of a board. If you are not that tall then your arms are shorter. It is then not advisable to choose a model that is so wide that it cannot be carried under the arm.

4. What do I need for supping?

You need four things for SUP boarding. First, of course, a stand up paddle board. You also need paddles. When choosing a paddle, it is important that the material determines the weight. For example, aluminum is heavier than carbon. You can also opt for carbon fiber or plastic. Check well what suits you and what is the right length. When the paddle is upright on your SUP board, the end must be at eye level. Then you still need a belt or a cord for the connection between the person and the SUP board. If you fall off the board, it can pull away. The SUP board can slide away if it falls, making it easy to lose. If you're scared of the case, that's not a good thing. You then want to hold onto the SUP board directly. Ultimately, you also need a life jacket. If you are good at swimming, and only found yourself in calm water, you may find that it is not necessary. However, a life jacket is always a good idea. When you're traveling at high speed, you can be disoriented underwater. The life jacket then ensures that you get back on the surface of the water.

5. How do I have to transport the SUP board?

Our SUP boards can be easily transported in a car. You can even transport it on a bike. With a hardshell board, however, you'll need to find another mode of transportation. You need a standard on the roof or on the side of a car so that the SUP board can be transported safely. It is important to protect the SUP board well when you are out, e.g. against stones. If you always want to easily transport the SUP board, then the inflatable SUP board is of course a good choice. It is convenient to pull the SUP board afterwards in the water. However, this is not recommended. The SUP board can be seriously damaged and / or leak.

6. How do I have to use a SUP paddle?

Many beginners do not really know how to hold the paddle, which means that SUP boarding does not work well. It is important to hold a SUP paddle with one hand on top and one hand around the axis. Never place both hands on the axle. Keep your hands about shoulder width. This gives you good control over the paddle. Fully submerge the blade of the paddle underwater while paddling. If this doesn't work without bending over, you need a longer paddle. Make long movements in the water for the most speed.
