Pfarrkirchen examines the sewer network every ten years

With the help of a geographic information system (GIS for short), an overview of the network is guaranteed in Pfarrkirchen. In the GIS system of the municipal utilities, the exact location, material and condition of sewage pipes as well as information on the gas, electricity and drinking water sectors are mapped.

In order to prevent major damage to the condition of the sewer pipes, the public sewage network is systematically checked. For this purpose, the entire disposal area is divided into 10 areas. Every year an area is examined by a specialist company using a camera. During this inspection, a small robot is sent through the lines by remote control. The robot is equipped with a camera and transmits recordings of the condition of the lines.

The results of these inspections are evaluated by an engineering office. All sewer sections are divided into six condition classes (0 = no defects to 5 = immediate need for renovation). After the condition assessment, the engineering office suggests a rehabilitation plan (suitable rehabilitation methods and an initial cost estimate). Damaged sewers in the respective area will then be rehabilitated over the next two to three years.

Since 2009, the sewer network has been examined and rehabilitated with this approach every ten years.

"By dividing the network into ten areas, we can meet the requirement to examine the entire sewer network with the robot camera once every ten years."
