Project Management Institute (PMI)

The Project Management Institute (PMI) is the world's largest project management association.

The American institute was founded in 1969 near Philadelphia, operates worldwide and is considered to have the largest number of members in the field.

For 2019, the institute published a membership of over 900,000 and certificate holders in over 200 countries.

PMI is editor of the well-known "Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge" (). The PMBOK Guide the central guideline and at the same time an American ANSI standard and basis for the European ISO 21500 standard.

The members of the PMI are organized in regional chapters, which have organizational forms according to the respective state law, in Germany e.g. as registered associations. The PMI thus offers numerous opportunities for networking, making contacts and successfully training.

As a publisher, research and educational institute, that is PMI recognized worldwide and represents today's industry standards.

Certificates from the PMI are awarded according to strict rules that must be correctly met. For example, in order to get a certification, the institute checks the already existing experience in the field of project management.
